This FREE one-day, basic-level, introductory course includes lunch and tea and coffee. All participants receive a certificate, and travel expenses to your local course are covered.
It runs for approximately 6 hours, aiming to start at 9am and finish by 3.15pm. The times are flexible to allow for school drop off/pick up etc to make it accessible to all.

- Perhaps you face barriers to volunteering you need help to overcome?
- You might just want to learn how volunteering can help you find paid work?
- Or you might want to learn what types of volunteering are available to you?
- This course is packed full of hints and tips.
- You don’t need any prior experience to attend.
- Everyone is welcome.
- If you need extra help there will be somebody on hand to support you or you are welcome to bring someone with you.

By the end of this course, you will have an understanding of the following:
- What is and isn’t volunteering
- The benefits of volunteering
- The skills you have to offer
- What are transferable skills
- Barriers you may have that stop you volunteering and how to overcome them
- Volunteers’ rights and responsibilities
- Application forms, references and DBS checks
- Health and safety when volunteering
- Good and bad body language
- Preparing for your interview
- Interview skills
- Different volunteering roles available
- What to expect when you start volunteering
Who is this course aimed at?
If you are an individual living in the Dover, Folkestone & Hythe and Thanet districts, interested in volunteering, but perhaps need a confidence boost before taking those first steps towards volunteering, and you meet the below requirements then please get in touch with the team at training@kcv.org.uk
Course participants must be:
- 19 years of age or over
- unwaged (unemployed/retired/house person) or low-waged
- UK/EU Citizen
