Folkestone & Hythe Hub

Currently part funded by The Peoples Health Trust, the SHED project has been running since 2014 and provides a place for ex-military personnel and their families; we also welcome others in the community who may feel isolated or just want some company. We offer peer support, advice and the opportunity to learn new skills.

The SHED is supported by staff and key volunteers, it runs 3 sessions in the winter months 4-5 during other times. With 15 regular participants - new Shedders are always welcome.

Monday 10:00 – 3:00pm:  We encourage new Shedders to come along to the Monday session to meet up with the Coordinator and other Shedders.  This group mainly undertakes woodwork; making and selling commissioned items to support the ongoing costs of the SHED. Skill levels range from experienced carpentry to never having made a thing… “It’s nice to be able take a plain piece of wood and create something.”    Equally some SHEDDERS are happy to go along for a cuppa and a chat – there is no pressure to create.

Wednesday 10:00 – 2.00pm:  This session is volunteer lead and provides a great opportunity to carry out a project of your own with help on hand if you need it.

Thursday 10:00 – 2:00pm:  Again, this session is volunteer lead and like Wednesday, provides a great opportunity to undertake your own project or assist with one of our commissions.

Friday 10:00-1:00pm:  This session is well attended by Gurkha veterans from the Folkestone and wider community who also value the social aspects of attending the SHED.

The Shedders, as they are commonly known, often upcycle old pieces of furniture and at the moment all the wood that they use is recycled or has been donated to the project.

We always welcome requests for commissioned work from the public as it creates funding as well as activities for the Shedders to undertake.
