Description
We are looking for volunteers to tend to planters that we have scattered throughout Walmer, several of these planters are tended to by locals who give up their time when they can to look after them. Other planters also need tending to, some need a little work to the outside while others need new plants put in. These planters, as well as Hawkshill are also mainstays of our Walmer In Bloom campaign every year, as well as for the South East In Bloom competition every two years, competitions that Walmer has received high praise for.
You don’t need any knowledge or experience to tend to the planters, but if you think you could do with some when tending then there are others that will be able to give guidance. Several planters are located in Lower, Middle and Upper Walmer, meaning that most residents will be able to help tend to a planter close by.
What rewards come with volunteering, and how does it create meaningful change?
Volunteering to tend to the planters will bring people into contact with others that think similarly, they will be able to converse with interested member of the public and will learn more on how to tend to the plants.
You may be able to build friendships, get to know new people and just have a relaxing time while working on the planters.
This work will also assist on improving the environment around the parish, the plants help with absorbing the carbon in the air as well as giving animals and insects places to pollinate or inhabit.
Requirements
There are no requirements to volunteer, anyone that is interested can come along and help out. However those that will be tending to the planters will need their own tools and gloves.
