A volunteer befriending service aimed at reducing the feeling of loneliness and isolation among older people.
Feeling lonely?
Our Good Neighbours Service is a volunteer befriending service that operates in the Thanet and Shepway areas of Kent and is aimed at reducing the feeling of loneliness and isolation among older people in our communities. Our volunteers are not carers, cleaners or nurses, but can help by simply being a friend. We hope to help our members gain in confidence so that they can leave the house, use technology or simply be able to have a friendly conversation and build a lasting friendship through regular visits from the same volunteer, on a long-term basis.
Our volunteer befrienders are matched with older people with an aim to reduce that person’s loneliness and help them to maintain their independence. As a befriender you will be introduced to a client who lives close by and, between you, decide how regular your visits will be and what you both want to get out of those visits. This could be as simple as a weekly chat and a cup of tea around the client’s house, or a walk outside or to the local shops. Befrienders are not there to clean the house or help with medication, but most other things are open for discussion, just whatever works for both of you!
Contact our Good Neighbours Service by calling 01304 367898 and leaving a message, email gns@kcv.org.uk, or choose Good Neighbours from the enquiry form drop down menu on the next page to send us a message.
