Description

The museum’s extensive collection of vehicles and social history artefacts is catalogued on the “Modes” database, a national standard system which is used by many museums.  We are looking for a volunteer with reasonable IT skills who can work with our friendly Collection Management Team and take the lead for data entry to the “Modes system”.  Training will be provided if necessary.  The museum is unique in its celebration of aspects of both transport and social history with a strong emphasis on Dover and East Kent and is enjoyed by many thousands of visitors each year.

The museum’s collections are enjoyed by individuals, families, schools, clubs and special interest groups including those with special needs.  To be part of the museum volunteer team is to play an active, rewarding part in supporting the community in leisure and learning opportunities.  The museum has a large body of volunteers who carry out the wide range of duties needed to keep the museum running.  Collection management is one of the key functions that ensures the integrity of our procedures for looking after donated, loaned and purchased exhibits.   

Requirements

We are looking for a volunteer with basic IT skills who is willing to learn how to get the best out of the cataloguing system and who is able to work within the small team of volunteers who look after the administration around the exhibited collection and the artefacts in store. The role is at the museum in Whitfield which is best reached by car but is accessible by bus from Dover town centre.
