Description

Are you ladder competent? Deal and Walmer Chamber of Trade need help to give Deal its sparkle this festive season.

The Chamber takes the responsibility for putting up the town’s Christmas lights each year. Throughout the year a small team of expert dedicated volunteers work on the infrastructure to ensure safety and check that power supplies work etc, and on November Sundays, a larger team of volunteers climb ladders to put up the lights and trees. They are accompanied by ladder holders and marshals.

The switch on ceremony at the end of November is a big event with music, celebrities and Santa. Despite the generous volunteer help, the lights are still the Chambers biggest expense and a lot of time is spent fundraising through grant applications, and donations from businesses and the public.

The Chamber also festoons the high street with bunting during the summer months and help is needed to put this up and take it down, too.

What rewards come with volunteering, and how does it create meaningful change?

The Chamber relies on volunteers who are ladder competent to ensure the town always looks its best for special occasions. Volunteers know their help is appreciated by the town. This is a chance to meet like-minded people and be part of a great team, too.

Requirements

We need volunteers who are experienced at working at height, to help us put up and take down the lights, Christmas trees and bunting that festoon Deal High Street.

We also need volunteers with electrical experience to help maintain the Christmas lights’ infrastructure all year round.
