Heritage Responsibility Trustee Position

Description

About Us: The Ramsgate Heritage Regeneration Trust (RHRT) is dedicated to the safeguarding and regeneration of Ramsgate’s rich heritage sites. As custodians of The Ramsgate Tunnels – Ramsgate’s top visitor attraction – we hold a significant archive of artefacts and documents that illuminate the town’s vibrant history. We are entering an exciting new chapter for the Trust and are looking to diversify our existing board to strengthen our impact and outreach.

Role Summary: We are seeking passionate and committed individuals to join our Board of Trustees. This is an opportunity to contribute to the preservation and promotion of Ramsgate’s heritage while helping to shape the Trust’s future. Our monthly meetings provide a platform for strategic discussion and collaborative decision-making as we work towards building an ongoing legacy for the Trust.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend monthly board meetings and actively participate in discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the Trust, ensuring alignment with our objectives of heritage safeguarding and regeneration.
  • Promote existing networks within the heritage community to enhance the Trust’s outreach and engagement.
  • Support fundraising initiatives and the identification of potential funding sources, particularly through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Historic England.
  • Advocate for the Trust within the community and beyond, fostering partnerships that align with our mission.
  • Assist with the general running of the Trust and the overseeing of its various projects.

What rewards come with volunteering, and how does it create meaningful change?

Benefits:

  • Opportunity to make a meaningful impact on Ramsgate’s heritage and community.
  • Networking opportunities with other heritage professionals and community leaders.
  • Personal and professional growth through involvement in strategic decision-making and project development.

Requirements

Preferred Qualifications or Experience in any of the following:

  • Insights and expertise related to museum and heritage practices, funding and grant opportunities.
  • Experience in museum and heritage management, cultural preservation, or related fields.
  • Proven track record of identifying and securing funding and grant opportunities.
  • Strong connections to the heritage community, whether locally in Ramsgate or in broader contexts.
  • Passion for Ramsgate’s history and commitment to its heritage preservation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with fellow trustees and stakeholders, bringing diverse perspectives to the table.

How to apply: If you are committed to supporting Ramsgate’s heritage and have the time to give, please consider applying to join our Board of Trustees.
