A tribute to Mick Glover

Long-standing volunteer Mick Glover sadly passed away at home on Saturday 14th October 2023 with his loved ones nearby.

Mick started volunteering as a befriender for our Good Neighbours Service in 2013 when he told us he used to race cars and had been a pianist in a pop group! He was a keen historian and a published author of local history books.

Mick volunteered until shortly before he died. The photo above is of him with Gordon, a befriending match that lasted years. Here is a clip of Mick and Gordon videoed talking about a trip to the cinema, which gives a glimpse of Mick’s sense of humour.

Befriendees said of Mick they were “so lucky” to know him. Mick more recently befriended Jim and had befriended three other isolated people before Gordon.

KCV would like to pay tribute to Mick’s long service and the support he gave to everyone he visited. He was a dedicated volunteer and we were lucky to have known him.

His wife Jenny has shared this photo of him enjoying a whiskey and a holiday and said: “He really enjoyed his time with the voluntary service and we will miss him terribly.”

His funeral tribute says: “A beloved husband, father and friend who has left us with wonderful memories of his love, humour and generosity. He will be greatly missed but we will always hold him close in our thoughts and hearts. Rest In Peace dear Mick.”
