Broadmeadow Garden Project, Folkestone

What a success! With the help of the B&Q Foundation charity projects, Kent Coast Volunteering and Shepway Community Services, plus some hard work and patience, Broadmeadow Care Home now has a beautifully revamped garden space.

The garden had become tired and dated and it was seen as the perfect joint project. Great thought was given to the types of plants to be included such as herbs, scented flowers, a kitchen garden and the inclusion of more colour and texture, which was provided in abundance.

Over the course of the two days’ work, we had many compliments and, straight away, we could see the positive impact it was having on residents and visitors alike. We have also received positive comments on the Folkestone Community Facebook page from people who have visited the garden with their family members.

One family said the garden had previously looked barren but was now a wonderful place to visit and walk round. He felt that his parent was now taking a great interest in the names of the plants and was glad that their bedroom was adjacent to the garden, where she could look out of her window and see the new bright and colourful area created by the team.

What an achievement, we did it! Challenge completed!
