Description

Volunteer at a Pumpkin Art Party! 🎃

Help us bring the Pumpkin Art Party to life this October half-term! This free, family-friendly workshop in Deal is led by local community artist Becky Vincer and gives families the chance to spend quality time together, get creative, and have fun. Parents and children will make squishy no-sew pumpkins, colourful decorations, and enjoy games, all in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

To make the day a success, we’re looking for 2 friendly volunteers to play a key role in supporting families, assisting with crafts, and keeping everything running smoothly. This is a perfect opportunity if you’re interested in arts, crafts, community workshops, or supporting local families in Deal.

Your role will include:

  • Helping set up trestle tables and chairs
  • Making tea, coffee, and squash for families
  • Supporting families and keeping young children entertained
  • Assisting children with craft activities (cutting, tying knots, sticking, etc.)
  • Helping tidy up afterwards – sweeping, washing mugs, putting away materials

What rewards come with volunteering, and how does it create meaningful change?

What you’ll gain:

  • Hands-on experience helping run a family-friendly creative workshop
  • Opportunity to work with a local community artist and develop craft facilitation skills
  • The joy of helping children and families enjoy a fun, creative experience
  • A friendly, welcoming environment and the chance to connect with local families

Rewards of Volunteering:

  • Personal fulfilment: You’ll experience the joy of helping children and families enjoy a creative, collaborative day.
  • Skill development: Gain hands-on experience in craft facilitation, event support, and working with children in a friendly workshop setting.
  • Community connection: Meet other local volunteers, families, and the artist, building friendships and networks.
  • Creative fun: Engage in playful, hands-on activities yourself while supporting others.

Creating Meaningful Change:
By volunteering, you help make arts and creativity accessible to all families, especially those who may not otherwise have opportunities for fun, structured, and supportive activities during the school holidays. Your support builds confidence in parents and children, fosters family bonding, and strengthens the sense of community in Deal. Even small acts, helping a child tie a knot or serving a cup of tea, contribute to a warm, inclusive, and memorable experience for everyone attending.

Requirements

  • Be friendly, patient, and enjoy working with children and families.
  • Attend a 30-minute preparation meeting (Zoom or in-person) with the artist, Becky Vincer, to go over the craft activity.
  • Commit to the workshop on Thursday 23 October, 9am – 12:30pm:
    • 9am – 10am: Set up
    • 10am – 12pm: Workshop support
    • 12 – 12:30pm: Pack up and tidy
  • Be comfortable helping with basic craft activities (cutting, tying knots, sticking) and general workshop tasks (making drinks, tidying, supporting families).
  • Be able to follow health and safety guidelines, especially when supervising children.
  • Enjoy being part of a team environment and supporting a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere.
