Description
Join Us in Making a Difference
We understand that parenting can be challenging, especially when dealing with issues like poverty, isolation, poor mental health, and domestic abuse. This is where Home-Start steps in to help.
For 30 years, Home-Start Shepway volunteers have been at the heart of the community, offering emotional and practical support to families, because “Childhood can’t wait.” Our volunteers provide non-judgmental support, helping families make positive changes, access specialist services, and receive consistent support for as long as needed.
Volunteer Roles
- Home-Visiting families: offering regular support, friendship and encouragement to families
What rewards come with volunteering, and how does it create meaningful change?
Why Volunteer with Home-Start Shepway?
- Make a Real Impact: Share your knowledge and experience to transform the lives of young children and their parents in our community.
- Comprehensive Training: Our Volunteer Preparation Training Course is available online or face-to-face, covering essential topics like listening and communication, supporting parents, and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
- Ongoing Support: Volunteers receive continuous support from our Board of Trustees, CEO, Project Coordinators, and the entire team, along with specialised training throughout your time with us.
- Reimbursed Expenses: Any expenses incurred during the preparation course and volunteering are reimbursed.
Volunteering can improve your physical and mental well-being, increase self-confidence, and provide a sense of purpose. It also enhances personal and professional skills, and after six months, we can provide a professional reference.
Requirements
No qualifications are needed. We value an understanding of family challenges and a caring, friendly attitude. All volunteers complete our Volunteer Preparation Course and undergo an enhanced DBS check.
