Description
Reading Helpers are adult volunteers living or working within a 5 mile radius of a school that has asked for our help. You need to commit to at least an afternoon a week for a whole year during term-time, and as we invest in your training we’d appreciate it if you could stay longer.
The role isn’t about listening to children read, but creating a relaxed session that allows children to work alongside you to discover the joy of books.
What rewards come with volunteering, and how does it create meaningful change?
We provide full training for volunteers and an enhanced DBS which can be used elsewhere.
You will have access to ongoing learning/development opportunities.
You can add the volunteer role to your CV.
We can reimburse bus/train/tram tickets and mileage up to 5 miles each way
You help children grow to enjoy reading and gain confidence
Requirements
You must be able to offer a minimum of one consistent weekday afternoon throughout the school year.
You must be confident to read aloud.
