Description

Dover Transport Museum is an independent, volunteer run museum with 85 active volunteers engaged in a wide range of different activities, including estate and building maintenance, visitor care, vehicle restoration and maintenance, and the conservation of exhibits.

The museum has an established Health and Safety risk management regime including staff training.

We are seeking a replacement for our retiring volunteer Health and Safety advisor.

What is the job?

  • To act generally as advisor to the museum’s governing committee on Health and Safety at work and, in particular –
  • To maintain a comprehensive Health and Safety risk assessment on all aspects of the museum’s activities and advise the governing committee of compliance failures and areas for improvement
  • To oversee risk assessments and preparation of method statements for relevant projects
  • To assist in the production and delivery of Health and Safety related training materials
  • To help maintain effective communications about Health and Safety matters between the museum management and volunteers.

Requirements

Skills and experience

Understanding of the law relating to Health and Safety and experience of Health and Safety in the work-place is essential. 

Mentoring and time for familiarisation with the museum’s working practices will be provided, as necessary. 

Other required skills are:

  • Basic IT capability with Microsoft products including Outlook
  • Good communication skills
  • Good inter-personal skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
