Visit from The Princess Royal
On 30 September 2021 Kent Coast Volunteering was delighted to be part of a celebration event at Dover Castle, attended by The Princess Royal and her husband. The event was organised to thank the Military, emergency services and civilian organisations who were instrumental in Kent’s Covid response.
We shared a stand with our sector colleagues Medway Voluntary Action, Canterbury and Herne Bay Volunteer Centre and Imago Community who we worked with during the pandemic as part of the Voluntary and Community Sector Emergencies Partnership. We were honoured to speak to Princess Anne and Sir Timothy Laurence about our role connecting volunteers with opportunities in grassroots and parish groups, Covid Hubs, local vaccination centres and testing sites. We also had opportunity to show and talk about our book Anthology, which captured feelings, experiences and memories of what life looked and felt like for older people during Covid-19.
Samantha Howlett, Senior Project Coordinator, who attended the event on behalf of Kent Coast Volunteering, said: “It was an honour to represent KCV and the voluntary sector at this special event, and to meet The Princess Royal and her husband who were very interested in everyone’s efforts during the pandemic. Sir Timothy Laurence also took time to look through Anthology which was brilliant! It’s a day I will remember for a long time”.
