Volunteer with SE Kitchen!
SE Kitchen is a Social Supermarket located in Ramsgate, Kent. Providing a wide range of affordable groceries to residents of Thanet ; from fresh produce, chilled and frozen foods, to pantry goods, hygiene and household cleaning items. The small team of staff and much larger crew of wonderful volunteers, support SE Kitchen to open to the public from Monday – Saturday (until 12:30pm Saturdays).
Your role will include:
- assisting with the smooth running of the shop
- helping receive and store stock deliveries
- pricing items for sale
- following specific shop processes
- rotating and checking for short-dated stock
- displaying stock and merchandising
- handling and repackaging food items
- store cleaning and equipment maintenance duties
- ensuring our customers enjoy their shopping experience!
Optional:
- speaking to customers to ensure we are meeting their needs
- signposting people to other relevant Social Enterprise Kent services and opportunities and/or local community groups and services.
- Learning how to use the till.
- If you drive and have access to a vehicle – perhaps you could consider helping us collect shop stock donations too?

This is an excellent personal development opportunity! You will gain confidence and experience working as part of the wonderful SE Kitchen team, where we encourage volunteers to assist the improvement of our service. You will also be helping to make a difference to your own community. Training and ongoing support will be provided throughout your time with us, with the option of undertaking further training to help you continue the role. Once you become a SEK trained volunteer there may also be further volunteering opportunities in our organisation if you would to further your experience
Requirements
General Shop Support Volunteers will be keen to work as part of a team, to provide local residents with the best service possible. They will be friendly and approachable, have a positive attitude and be keen to help make a difference for our customers. Please note that the shop can often be very busy, but we do also experience regular quieter spells where we work as a smaller team – so please let us know if you have a preference.
Being a SEK shop volunteer will bring you into contact with our diverse community members, some of which are experiencing homelessness, mental health, social isolation and poverty. This is an excellent opportunity for those wanting to gain experience in a customer facing role supporting those with complex needs as it will allow you to gain transferrable communication skills. You will also be helping to make a difference to your own community.
No specific skills or experience are required for this role, but the following are desirable:
- Reliable, friendly, flexible, and supportive
- A willingness to get stuck into practical shop tasks
- Enthusiasm and an interest in helping the success of the shop
- All relevant training must be attended
- Adhere to Volunteer Agreement
- Adhere to policies and code of conduct
