Description

Ramsgate Tunnels Tea Shop volunteers operate our little tea shop serving hot and cold drinks, cakes and simple hot food items to our visitors and volunteers within the tunnels.

The main activities and tasks involved in the role are:

  • Providing a warm, friendly welcome to all visitors and deliver excellent customer service
  • Serving hot and cold drinks, cakes, sandwiches, and other simple hot food items (training provided)
  • Operating the till system (training provided) and handle cash/card transactions
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, including clearing tables and cleaning surfaces
  • Assisting with stock rotation, ordering, and recording wastage
  • Completing daily equipment safety and hygiene checks and maintain cleaning records

The role may require you to work alone in the Tea Shop depending on fellow volunteer availability

What rewards come with volunteering, and how does it create meaningful change?

By becoming a Ramsgate Tunnels’ volunteer you will make a difference by promoting your local area, supporting the preservation and sharing of Ramsgate’s unique heritage and helping to create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for visitors to the Tunnels.

Volunteering at the Tunnels will help you develop communication and teamwork skills in a supportive environment, and you will get to meet new people by joining our friendly and diverse group of volunteers. You will gain valuable experience in customer service, food handling and safety procedures, will be trained in house and gain a recognised accredited Level II Food Safety certificate.

In return for your time we provide free uniform, free refreshments whilst on duty, a volunteer discount in the gift shop and on Explorer Tours, and off duty discount in the Tea Shop. We also provide a footwear allowance after 3 months.

Requirements

We need volunteers who have:

• A cheerful, helpful, and welcoming attitude
• Basic numerical skills for handling transactions
• Good personal hygiene and physical fitness (standing, lifting, cleaning)
• Willingness to follow food safety and hygiene procedures and complete Level II Food Safety and Hygiene training (provided)
• Reliable and able to work independently when needed

It would be great, although not necessary, if you also have previous experience in customer service or food handling, and an interest in heritage or community engagement.
