Description
Scout Section Volunteers (ages 10½–14)
Scouts (ages 10½–14) is all about adventure, challenge, and developing skills for life. To make this possible, we rely on a supportive team of adult volunteers who help create safe, inclusive, and exciting experiences for young people.
We are looking for Volunteers to join our Scout Section Team. Whether you can help regularly or occasionally, your involvement will directly support young people as they grow in confidence, learn new skills, and take on new challenges.
Our aim is to build a diverse team that reflects the community we serve. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, experiences, and skill sets, no previous Scouting experience is required.
Why your contribution matters
Young people in the Scout age range are beginning to explore independence, teamwork, and leadership. Having supportive adults around them makes a huge difference. As a Scout Section Volunteer, you’ll help shape the experiences that young people remember for years to come. From their first hike to learning practical skills, taking part in community projects, and discovering what they’re capable of.
Your ideas, enthusiasm, and lived experience will help us deliver a programme that is relevant, inclusive, and engaging for every young person aged 10½–14 in our care.
What will you be supporting us with?
Your involvement can be flexible and shaped around your availability. Activities may include:
- Helping run weekly Scout meetings
- Supporting games, skills sessions, and badge activities
- Assisting with camps, hikes, and adventurous activities
- Offering occasional help with planning or preparation
- Contributing ideas to improve the programme
- Helping create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all young people
Scouts meet on Friday evenings, 19:00–21:30, mainly during term time, with the occasional weekend adventure or activity.
You’ll join a supportive team who plan the programme together and make sure everyone contributes in a way that fits their time and strengths.
The 4 Week Challenge – A Simple Way to Try Volunteering
We also offer the 4 Week Challenge, a flexible and low‑commitment way for adults to try volunteering with us. The idea is simple: as a new volunteer you will join us for four weeks, each week experiencing a different aspect of what we do — from helping with activities to supporting planning or administration.
What rewards come with volunteering, and how does it create meaningful change?
As a Scout Section Volunteer, you will:
- Make a direct, positive impact on the lives of young people aged 10½–14
- Develop new skills and gain valuable experience
- Build confidence in leadership, teamwork, and communication
- Meet new people and become part of a supportive volunteer community
- Access free training and learning opportunities
